Aromatic and All-Natural Haircare by Shigeta Head therapist Sasaki whisked the client to the back and invited her to take a seat at one of the washing stations. NORA Ginza is equipped with plush, fully-reclining shampoo chairs to pamper clients and give them the utmost sense of relaxation. As Kristine got comfortable, Sasaki turned towards her arsenal of organic goodies by Shigeta. Made by a Japanese woman in France, the Shigeta haircare line features all-natural ingredients with aromatherapeutic benefits that are perfect for repairing damaged hair and bringing out its original beauty. Ms. M proudly holding her “curist” diploma. Guided back to the plush chair, Ms. M blended bergamot oil with some argan oil to make a fragrant concoction for a much-needed twenty-minute head massage. The oils in the massage help to rehydrate and cleanse the scalp of any undesirables. A “curist” is a new Japanese word coined for a specialist in handling the head cure treatment. The knowledge and skill one must acquire in order to be qualified is extensive. The honey packs in all their glory. You have two options – honey with brown sugar (which is most effective for white hair), and the other, honey with a minty twist. Aging Care and Revitalization of Scalp & Hair The main effect of the head cure is “aging care and revitalization of scalp and hair”. I was spoiled to bits – a trim, blow-drying, brushing, a hot iron and a head full of curls, sprayed with a glossy finish. With this information in mind, our hair models were very excited to try Hayato’s ‘anything you like’ package, where they could relax and fully trust their stylist to take care of their hair. One of the hair models wanted a digital perm – a unique Japanese hair perm, while our second model opted for a double-process hair color, a conditioning treatment, and a haircut. Great Deal for Japanese Digital Perm So what exactly is a digital perm? Created and perfected in Japan, the digital perm uses heat to give the hair its shape memory and it also strengthens the condition of the hair. It gives hair a 3-D effect with flexible waves and curls, without making the hair stiff or dull – and its effects are extremely long-lasting. Let’s see the process for ourselves on our first hair model. Digital perm chemicals being applied to the hair Our first model wanted to shake up her very long and somewhat lifeless tresses with some bouncy curls as well as a boost of shine. She came hoping that she could have a fun look without damaging her hair further, and her stylist did everything possible to deliver. The stylist took special care to only apply bleach to her virgin hair, including avoiding folding the foil to keep the application precise. After washing out the bleach, the stylist created the perfect shade of purple to match the photograph our model brought in. After applying the dye to the bleached ends, the end color is an amazing dip-dye/gradation of bright purple! The model Hana arrived early that morning. The stylists welcomed her in and quickly brought her to a chair and made her comfortable. Then, they began the consultation. She needed a new look—something stylish—and she wanted to neutralize the reds in her hair. She had not been to a salon in several months, and her hair needed a bit of a TLC. Stylists Yukari Katayama and Takahiro Araki suggested a color close to her natural hair color and a cut with feminine bangs that framed her face. This style would look great and be easy for her to maintain in between salon visits. Over 400 Hair Colors to Choose From After Hana agreed, stylist Yukari went to a wall of dyes in the middle of the salon. NORA has over 400 colors and stylists can mix dyes to create custom shades for clients, she told us. She grabbed three bottles and began mixing a custom color. She was making a shade just for the model. Once the color was ready, the stylists began applying the color throughout the Hana’s hair. The Straight-Cure technique is composed of two main steps. First, hairstylists use the hot hair iron set at a low temperature to compress the premium protein treatment into the hair. Once all hair is straightened, a CMC (cell membrane complex) treatment cream is then applied to seal the hair’s new straight consistency. This ensures a straight and smooth texture. In order to protect Annie’s hair from damages, the treatment is left in to absorb into our model’s hair while hairstylists ready the hair iron for the straightening process. The temperature is set to 100°C, a very low temperature compared to the standard 160-220°C. To avoid damaging Annie’s hair, Hope’s hairstylists place special plastic protection over each side of the iron plate. They then proceed to straighten our model’s hair, section by section. Straight-Cure Or Traditional Japanese Straightening Method, What Is The Difference? Until a few years ago, traditional permanent Japanese straightening method was very popular. However, the technique requires much time, uses a lot of chemicals that damages hair, and considerably reduces hair volume.
