On a bright and sunny morning, Kristine arrived at NORA Ginza for a revitalizing hair experience. Representative Araki and Head therapist Sasaki welcomed her in and showed her to a wall of lockers to put away her things. She wanted to experience a restorative head spa, a quintessential Japanese treatment. Understanding her needs, the stylists recommended their highly-requested, all-natural head spa package to relieve any stress Kristine might have and to revive her long, brown locks. This package features a holistic head spa using essential oils made up of 100 percent pure and natural plant essence followed by a haircut to revive your look. The essential oils absorb into the skin, improving blood flow and relaxing the body with their aromatic benefits that you can be enjoyed long after the appointment. Aromatic and All-Natural Haircare by Shigeta Head therapist Sasaki whisked the client to the back and invited her to take a seat at one of the washing stations. NORA Ginza is equipped with plush, fully-reclining shampoo chairs to pamper clients and give them the utmost sense of relaxation. As Kristine got comfortable, Sasaki turned towards her arsenal of organic goodies by Shigeta. Made by a Japanese woman in France, the Shigeta haircare line features all-natural ingredients with aromatherapeutic benefits that are perfect for repairing damaged hair and bringing out its original beauty. Immediately, the salon was filled with the scent of geranium and other botanical extracts. Deep-Treating With Pure Essential Oils With the hair cleansed and rinsed, she moved onto the treatment. Starting with scalp care, head therapist Sasaki took Shigeta’s essential oil blend Midnight Lustre and applied a few drops to the client’s hairline. As she worked the oil into Kristine’s scalp, alluring notes such as frankincense, myrrh, spearmint, and sage scented the air. Without washing the oil out, head therapist Sasaki then took Shigeta’s Wild Grace Repair Hair Mask and applied it from mid-shaft to end. She then massaged what was left into roots while letting the product penetrate the hair follicle. She continued massaging the model’s head, working from the hairline all the way to the nape of the neck. A Luxurious Head and Shoulder Massage After five minutes of massaging the model’s scalp, the head therapist brought over two more essential oils: Body Mind Spirit and River of Life. Kristine was then asked to choose between the two. Body Mind Spirit is a calming blend of ingredients like patchouli, chamomile, and geranium that invites a meditative state. Araki spoke with her on her hair concerns and what she’d like done, as well as how to care for her hair at home. From there, Araki went to work trimming split ends and styling her new ‘do. Once selected, my “Curist”, Ms. M, led me to a comfortable Yume (to dream) reclining chair and gently washed and pat-dried my hair, getting all the city dirt and grime out. Ms. M proudly holding her “curist” diploma. Guided back to the plush chair, Ms. M blended bergamot oil with some argan oil to make a fragrant concoction for a much-needed twenty-minute head massage. The oils in the massage help to rehydrate and cleanse the scalp of any undesirables. A “curist” is a new Japanese word coined for a specialist in handling the head cure treatment. The knowledge and skill one must acquire in order to be qualified is extensive. The honey packs in all their glory. You have two options – honey with brown sugar (which is most effective for white hair), and the other, honey with a minty twist. Aging Care and Revitalization of Scalp & Hair The main effect of the head cure is “aging care and revitalization of scalp and hair”. She needed a new look—something stylish—and she wanted to neutralize the reds in her hair. She had not been to a salon in several months, and her hair needed a bit of a TLC. Stylists Yukari Katayama and Takahiro Araki suggested a color close to her natural hair color and a cut with feminine bangs that framed her face.
