You may have difficulty finding the entrance on your first visit, but this only adds to NORA Hair Salon’s promise of ‘it’ girl/guy style. Upon entering NORA, you’re taken aback by the openness of the space; it hardly feels like a B1 floor salon. The tall ceilings are highlighted by open-ductwork that, paired with concrete floors, give an industrial-cool vibe reminiscent of New York City’s SOHO district. Vibrant art decorates the walls and patinated leather seating serves as chairs for NORA’s trendsetting clients.
Named after the independent and daring character Nora from Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll’s House, NORA Hair Salon’s philosophy is to help each client find their own true identity.
Mixing it Up
The model arrived early that morning. The stylists welcomed her in and quickly brought her to a chair and made her comfortable. Then, they began the consultation. She needed a new look—something stylish—and she wanted to neutralize the reds in her hair. She had not been to a salon in several months, and her hair needed a bit of a TLC. Stylists Yukari Katayama and Takahiro Araki suggested a color close to her natural hair color and a cut with feminine bangs that framed her face. This style would look great and be easy for her to maintain in between salon visits.
Over 400 Colors to Choose From
After the model agreed, stylist Yukari Katayama went to a wall of dyes in the middle of the salon. NORA has over 400 colors and stylists can mix dyes to create custom shades for clients, she told us. She grabbed three bottles and began mixing a custom color. She was making a shade just for the model.
Once the color was ready, the stylists began applying the color throughout the model’s hair. The dyes they were using were ADDICTCHY, a Japanese professional hair color brand that would give the model shiny, long-lasting color. After checking on the model’s hair, stylist Takahiro Araki said they were ready to wash the dye out.
Italian Organics or Japanese Technology
Meanwhile, while the color set, stylist Yukari Katayama prepared the head spa product. For the head spa, they use Re>>Life soothing gel. Perfect for sensitive scalps, this treatment uses organic ingredients sourced from Italy to calm and balance irritated scalps. She applied the paste-like treatment onto the model’s scalp and massaged it in. After five or ten minutes, she washed everything out.
If you’d rather try something made in Japan, then opt for the hair treatment. NORA Hair Salon uses the TOKIO Inkarami Salon System. Using patent technology, this three-step system strengthens the hair by 140 percent, slows hair aging using Nobel Prize-winning ingredient fullerene, and tames frizzy hair.
The stylists shot a stream of warm steam on the model’s hair to open up the cuticle. With the cuticle open, the stylists then applied three products— each one heavier in consistency than the last. After steaming the model’s hair once more, it was time to wash everything out.
Redefining Your Style
With the model back in the chair, stylist Takahiro Araki began to cut her hair. He followed up with TOKIO hair oil before blow drying. He finished off the model’s cut by dry cutting face-framing bangs. Then, he and stylist Yukari Katayama used a round brush to finish off the model’s look.
When asked about the package, the model told us how much she enjoyed the whole experience. The head spa massage was extremely relaxing, while the steam from the Japanese hair treatment was the perfect temperature. You’ll be happy with either treatment option!
