Haircut and 3D Hair Color With FIBREPLEX Treatment
Only a block away from Shibuya’s New South Exit, PIA Hair Salon is new to the Tokyo hair scene. The salon is set back off the road, with a terrace out front where you can enjoy a coffee on a warm day. Inside, the salon transports you to sunny Los Angeles with reclaimed wood panelling, comfy leather seats, American pop music, and that fun LA vibe.
The salon is originally from Los Angeles and has branches in Irvine and Guam. With experiences in the UK and China as well as work in international magazines and hairstyle competitions, the stylists at the Shibuya branch bring this diversity to Tokyo. Now, they are here to help you find a haircut and color that speaks to you.
Sing to a Different Tune
When the model arrived, the stylists asked her about work and offered her something to drink. The model, Aly, is a performer from LA who is currently working at a large amusement park in Japan. She shared that she wears a lot of wigs for her job, so she wanted to switch up her hair color—something she usually can’t do due to her line of work. She wanted a balayage that blended her natural, darker roots with her current blonde hair. Also, she had a lot of natural volume that was difficult for her to manage day to day. With her concerns in mind, Stylist Koichi Nihei said he could do the balayage along with a toner to add the darker color and create a more natural transition. He would also add layers in the back to make it easier to style.
A Look With Layers
Once the model’s hair was cleaned of any dirt and product, Koichi brushed it out and began to cut. While wet, he cut the ends and gave her side-swept bangs. Her hair was then dried. Once dried, he got rid of excess volume by cutting layers throughout with special attention in the back.
Color me Impressed
After the haircut was finished, Koichi began to split the model’s hair into sections. While doing so, the hair color was being prepared. Aly doesn’t like ash tones, so they prepared a warm-toned brown. They mixed it with FIBREPLEX Bond Enforcing System. FIBREPLEX strengthens and protects the hair, reducing damage by 94 percent. This combination lacked the strong ammonia scent found in most hair dyes.
After everything was ready, Koichi Nihei, along with Stylist Naoto Kanno, began to apply the color. They used the French technique balayage to apply the hair color. Balayage, a popular request recently, is a freehand painting technique that the stylist can use to create more natural dimension with less noticeable regrowth. Usually this technique is used to create highlights, but in this case, Koichi Nihei used balayage for lowlights. Once the dye set, the stylists applied a milk tea blonde toner to help blend the darker brown with her blonde ends.
Treat it Right
Once the color had set, Assistant Genki Goda brought Aly to back to wash everything out. After the shampoo, he began to apply a four-step restorative treatment by Flowdia. This treatment is specially formulated to repair the damaged sections while preventing healthy hair from excess product buildup.
After the treatment, the model returned to the chair and the stylists began to dry and curl her hair. The transformation was dramatic; Aly went from beach blonde to a multi-dimensional brunette.
When asked about the experience, Aly said the treatment was relaxing and thought her hair looked and felt great. She hadn’t had darker hair in years, but you could see she felt refreshed with her lustrous, dark locks.
